8th Oct 2011 - BBM ME Presents POPCOX

BBM Me is the newest weekly party dedicated to bringing the fun and a dash of glamour back to the weekend – showcasing the best of all genres of house music every Saturday night to create the best house party you’ve ever been to.

Presenting an electrifyingly ultra flamboyant party experience, this week we present drag DJ supremo POPCOX. This trannie disc jockey dance floor empress is on a cross-dressing DJ mission of entertain…ment, a musical awakening of glittering charisma. Sitting like a glace cherry atop a tranny DJ Bakewell tart of fantastic music.

An utterly dragfabulous re-incarnation of a ‘more traditional’ club DJ act into a lipstick muse, disc jockey, social butterfly and style paradox. Music producer, dress up doll and purveyor of quirk, POPCOX is nearly as infamous for his quirky gender bending outfits as he is for his DJing.

POPCOX offers something unique; energetic, charismatic and creative with wide appeal to a variety of scenes and communities from clubbers to gays, straights, the trans and fetish communities, straights weirdoes and even those normal people who may cross his path.

The vivacious, electric, outrageous transvestite Queen of the decks is a pro DJ with 15 years experience ‘pre-stilettos’. A raft of London, UK and international gigs in the past, the POPCOX project, born in May 2008, has seen this alternative drag DJ act catalyze event success with her technical ability, stunning outfits and wide range of music.

No female impersonator has pushed drag DJing since Jon Pleased Wimmin. POPCOX will set your world on fire whatever the event. Clubs, celebrity birthday parties, corporate events, warehouses to weddings to DJjing at sordid fetish nights. POPCOX promises to bring colour, allure and dazzle to make sure your event is unforgettably good fun.

The drag DJ deviant, the dance floor rebel, the final trannie taboo, she’s on a mission, who knows where this might end?!?!

Dress to impress, we’re the most glamorous and best night out in Shoreditch. No other night will offer you the opportunity to mix fashion, hedonism and exhibitionism.

Join us for an electrifyingly unique evening, surrounded by the most colourful and fabulous crowd constantly pushing the party experience in new exciting and daring directions.

With The Hoxton Pony already synonymous with decadence and a smidgen of anarchy, it is the number one destination for the achingly cool… so on Saturday night, BBM Me and we’ll hit you up for a night of mayhem and unspeakable party antics!

It will be nothing short of mental. Assured.

24th Sep 2011 - Gutterslut

I’ve been lucky enough to play the excellent Gutterslut party twice in the past, both gigs some of the absolute favourites in my DJ career! No other party in London has a more diverse and welcoming environment with gays, straights, trannies, club kids and fashionistas all getting down and rocking there asses of at the most hedonistic party in Town. Not to be miised, I genuinely love it! Here’s some more info and history from the founders; The Dalston Gay Mafia!

Launched back in 2007, GutterSlut has since proved itself as the most notoriously-wild, insanely-fun and hotly anticipated club night in London - enthusiastically hailed by magazines including Time Out, i-D, DJ Mag and Mixmag as the natural successor to some of the Capitals’s most iconic clubs from the past, such as Blitz and Taboo.

The monthly GutterSlut parties always draw in a dressed-up and up-for-it crowd of good times-loving boys, girls (straight and gay), trannies, club kids and older nightlife faces, whom collectively let rip amid the most dynamic sets played by the hottest international DJs around: Larry T, Tom Stephan, Severino, Deep Groove, Princess Julia, not to mention resident spinners and GuttlerSlut founders Per Qx, Nic Fisher, Ralf Obergfell and Elliott J Brown (who moved on to other projects in 2010), as well as the inimitable MC Miss Crystal, have consistently offered a cutting edge mix of eclectic, energetic House and Techno and general dancefloor mayhem.

Like all the best club nights, GutterSlut began on a small scale, when its aforementioned founders and friends realized, back in 2007, that there was no decent Saturday night event in East London and found the mainstream gay scene to be tired and formulaic. Naming themselves the Dalston Gay Mafia, they applied this tongue in cheek moniker to decadent after-hours parties – which were the catalyst for GutterSlut - hosted in their Glebe Road abode (situated down a seedy Dalston alley, frequented by local crack addicts). Roping in one of the regular attendees - performance artist and alternative cabaret star, Jonny Woo - to become the club’s very own muse, the Gutterslut story duly began.

Since celebrating its own first birthday, in 2008, GutterSlut has regularly hooked-up with and hosted rooms at various esteemed London-based venues and bashes, including Matter, Fabric, Trailer Trash, Wet Yourself, Egg, and the infamous afterhours party, Trade, as well as the Glastonbury Festival in Block 9.

With other European bookings and tours now being confirmed and planned, the 21st century legend that is GutterSlut goes from strength to strength as it sluttily struts around the globe!

I’ve had a beady eye on the critically acclaimed ‘Wotever’ crew for some time now, they drew my attention becuase of the genuinely warm and freindly community vibe of the whole concept - gem of warm fuzzy cuddles have-a-go cabaret, art and culture and a big friendly ‘Wotever’ to life’s hang ups be it sexuality, gender and the general stresses and strains of London life. Aww!

The Royal Vauxhall Tavern is an internationally renowned cabaret, arts and entertainment venue and its a great notch in the POPCOX venue bed post to have the honour to grace its decks.

Very much an after work pub / bar atmosphere with live acts and of course, me on the decks, I warmly welcome you to come and have a few beers and for once, a gig where you can have a chat with me (as it won’t be ear-beedingly loud like normal) and perhaps even a lil boogie - well lets face it, it’s hard to stop yourself isn’t it!?

Musically, I’m going to play a happy go lucky mash up set of some mixed and varied tracks with lots of guilty pleasures and tunes I don’t normally get to air in my full on club sets.

29th Oct 2010 - Bora Bora - Ibiza

I’ve known the lovely Bora Bora residents Alex Miles, Oliver Lang and Heath Holme for sometime now and its a tradition to hook up and get stuck in together at least once each time I’m out there. This trip was no exception when I was given a slot on the day of the World Cup final and the atmosphere was simply electric. After a day on the beach the game was shown at the venue and the cheers across the island when Spain won were deafening! After the game the dance floor carnage and celebrations began!

I know it may be a let down to some of my harder core drag DJ fans out there but I bailed on the drag this time round as it was so stiflingly hot I doubt I could have got the makeup to stick anyway :os

February 2010

21st Feb 2010 - Wearable Art For Durable People - Fashion Week Party

From it’s NYC street origins to deepest Kings Cross, we once again host an evening of Wearable Art, an alternative audio and visual extravaganza that takes place during London Fashion week. Our previous events have quite literally been the talk of town and with another stunning mélange of music, design, and performance programmed, this party is looking like our best one yet!

A new underground scene is breaking out over London, something that’s not just defined by music, but brings performance and production onto the dancefloor. At Wearable Art, we’ll be showcasing a snapshot of this on the top floor and basement led by Nuke Them All’s instigator, Buster Bennett, who’ll lead a collection of stylists, DJ’s, performers, and many more unquantifiable earthlings, to serenade you with a sensory storm of serious wow-ness! Highlights include Jon of the Pleased Wimmin, special guest, Scottee, from Eat Your Heart Out, whose brash, clumsy and obnoxious approach to performance has left audiences confused, annoyed & amused! Scally Dan Dan (whose weekly fidget podcast has attracted 700,000+ followers - yes, its good!) and the Vogue DJ’s (prepare to delve into their dressing up box) will also be in the house, as will DJ Rokk from Boombox fame and choice spinner for people in high places. Lucy Bridge, Maximus Crown, DJ Cooks, & the Neon Skullz complete the show.

But we have much more too… Taking care of musical proceedings on the terrace, we welcome back the glamorous Sound & Roses collective with their magnificent entourage of deep beats and electrifying house music. Headlining the Terrace Nude/Space Ibiza resident Smokin Jo, Rocky of Xpress 2/Kiss FM fame. Always a favourite on the london circuit and bound to rock the floor. Also taking centre stage is the lovely Miss Mavrik who brings her pizzazz on to the terrace, alongside special guest Nikos Akrivos, a dj who has graced the globes premier venues and parties. SAR resident Sophie Belluka Sparks sets the tone for the night along with Pasha regular, Colin John.

September 2009

26th Sep 2009 - MiMo - Bar Mango - Saturday 26th September

I played at MiMo! back in January and took some of the London party faithful down to Reading for a little road trip! We had such an immensely fun time, not least the raging after party too! Pen it in the diary and make sure you come with, its a hoot!

Here’s what they have to say;

In 2007 MiMo established itself in some of London’s most respected clubs including Turnmills, The Cross, Jamm and Aquarium. The year also saw MiMo gain monthly residency at ‘Mangos’ in Reading, playing to a packed club into the early hours of Sunday morning. With guests including Seb Fontaine, Paul Harris, Jim Rivers, Island Knights, Mutiny, Deepgroove, Luke Dzierzek, Mistress Da Funk, Cheshire Catz and Tania Von Pear to name a few.

2008 has seen MiMo smash two parties at ‘The Island’ in Charing Cross, as well as taking the roof off the prestigious Pacha and the brand new 54 (Mile End) as well as ‘Guarana’ in Ibiza every week throughout the summer!

MiMo boasts a fantastic crowd who know their music and know how to party. MiMo: join the crowd!

Hit me for guest and concession list – Londoners who want to come for a road trip, get in touch and I’ll let you know what train I’m getting.

After an unforgettable launch party with fancy dress, awesome DJs and the truly inimitable ‘Dreams and Whispers’ they mad hatters tea party continues as we welcome very very special guest Jon Pleased Wimmin this Friday. For those of you too young to remember, Jon Pleased was a respected pillar of debauchery throughout the 90’s house scene, his record ‘Passion’ sold 12,000 copies back in 1993 and he had a host of other top 30 hits - oh yeh, and he used to doll up in drag - what a freak ;oP

Not only is Jon making a super exclusive trip down to London to play for his lipstick chum POPCOX but he’s even promised to dust off his best wig and give us an even rarer feast for the eyes dragging up to the nines - what better a captain of the good ship ‘Enjoy Yourself’ than the one and only Jon Pleased Wimmin!?

July 2009

31st Jul 2009 - Night of 1000 Chicos at The Star with special guest POPCOX

Night of 1000 Chicos at The Star with special guest POPCOX

A favourite event I frequent (ooh that rhymes!), run by some favourite friends Big Daddy and Chico, they have finally decided to pull their finger out their proverbials and put their gig on the map by having POPCOX the infamous turn up and work her dance floor magic! Another night of gaiety and dancing with an emphasis on ‘not so much of the house music please’ The Star is as renowned for being a lovely pub with great nights as Chicos is renowned for good music, camp dancing, singing and the devouring of alcohol. Not to be missed. Here’s what they say;

Here at the NIGHT OF 1000 CHICOS, we don’t choose our heroes because of their worldwide reach, their celebrity, or because they did a nice tune about a dead rat ... NO! We love people purely for their hair - and let’s face it, if it’s a competition about who gets the RIP at the next Chicos, it’s going to be Farrah! Amazing hair, we bet she can moonwalk ever better than that other guy, plus she got to see the Six Million Dollar Man naked! Reader, she even married him!

And I bet she didn’t have to bribe him with a ride on Neverland rides first, either.

Doing her best Farrah impersonation, well, sporting blonde hair at the very least, special guest DJ POPCOX will be joining us with her handbag jammed full of tracks to delight.

THIS FRIDAY - come join us, you know CHICOS is always fun.

25th Jul 2009 - Cellar Door, Saturday 25th July

Fast becoming one of my favourite little gigs, Cellar Door it the tiny tiny little gorgeous bar in the West End that has an immensely charming and intoxicating fun atmosphere. Cocktails to die for and a smorgasbord feast of music from disco, funk, pop, house and various surprises, this unsuspecting little gig has proven very popular with Pop fans London wide. 24th Jul 2009 - Show Me Your Monkey, ‘The Swansong Ball’, Friday 24th July

Show Me Your Monkey – the house party in a club!

The final party before the monkey shenanigans take a well deserved summer break. It’s been an awesome run of nights so far with too many highlights to mention, thanks to The Russian for having us and everyone who has DJed, performed, dressed up, supported and got down and dirty on the dance floor until the week hours. If you’re yet to witness the madness that is Show Me Your Monkey, get down to the utterly debauched and insane house party in a club on this last night until the winter nights return.

Theme: Electro Punks & New Romantics – make up on the boys and the girls, neon and fluro, popsocks, back-bombed hair, spandex, ripped t-shirts, new romantic - come as an electro club kid or an 80’s throwback!

The night of cheeky primate antics and dress up fun where big name and breakthrough DJs alike prove their true party credentials by ditching the DJ frown and looning around like they’ve escaped an asylum!

Mashed up music from disco to dubstep, techno to pop, funk to electro, the DJs will battle it out to dance you off your feet, raise an eyebrow, surprise and excite, EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

18th Jul 2009 - Nylon Icons, The Egg

This party is going to be so PHAT!!! Abe Duque, favourite party Playtime, and great DJ buddies Plastiq Chic, Big Daddy and Dan Cat, ooh, and it’s at my favourite London club Egg - er, HELLO! This one is going to be utter debauchery!!! Egg have only just finished repairing the place since Plastiq Chic and I smashed it up back in April!!
Here’s the deets;

Abe Duque is one of techno’s most inspiring and often unsung heroes, and on Jul 18 at Egg he’ll do the UK launch of new album DON’T BE SO MEAN.

He started as a resident at New York’s notorious Limelight, back in the days of Michael Alig and the club kids and the excess of “Bright Lights Big City”. Since then, he’s wound his own unique path through production and DJing.

Abe Duque has just released his third album - Don’t Be So Mean.  Raveline in Germany said “watch out - the Duque is back!” and Tsugi in France called it “Brilliant”.  Agoria called it “amazing amazing amazing” and it’s had raves from Tiga, Oliver Huntemann, Marc Romboy, Luke Solomon, Ewan Pearson, Simon Baker, Tocadisco, Nic Faniculli, Garnier, Hannah Holland, De:Bug and Groove, and DJ mag likes Abe so much that they’re run a competition for budding producers to win a day in a Hackney studio with him.  With remixes coming from DJ Hell, techno legend Joey Beltram, Jay Haze, the UK’s own King Roc and ubercool European Tigerskin, the album takes elements of acid, Abe’s years of playing live everywhere from the US to Japan to Europe to South American, darker house and deep vocals - join the list at abeduque.net to get some early mixes, free tracks and updates…

POPCOX AND PLASTIQ CHIC
The empress of the dance floor and the embodiment of all things mind-blowing, Popcox is on a mission - a musical awakening to set the world free of the tiresome and the mundane.  Sitting like a glace cherry atop a Bakewell tart of fantastic music; with over a decade’s DJ experience under her spangly belt, POPCOX is an utterly dragfabulous re-incarnation of a shall we say ‘more traditional’ DJ act.  This weekend at Egg she’ll be going head to head with Liz Cirelli as Plastiq Chic - a new identify born out of a passion for uplifting French house, nu-disco and of course 80’s-influenced synth-driven full-on party music. When you hear her blend of infectious tunes, you just won’t be able to stop yourself from dancing…

DAN CAT (CATZMUZIK)

Back when the Catz were a duo, DJ mag called them “globe-trotting house/techno/minimal hotshots”.  Now the Catz have disbanded, Dan’s just spent 10 months out traveling, recording, remixing techno classics like Andre Crom’s Notaufnahme for release on Veryverywrongindeed Recordings, and fiddling with basslines in preparation for the return of the Catzmuzik label – first track, Winterslow, out June with an amazing Max Cooper remix…

BIG DADDY / PLAYTIME

It’s “the club that whacks you on the arse with the racing post and calls you princess!”  One of Egg’s earlier and stranger nights, Playtime was described by DJ mag as “one of clubland’s finest inventions”, by TNT as “the best mixed club in the capital” and by the Guardian as “terrific ... one of the last truly mixed parties left in London”.  Now it’s back at Egg for one night only with founder Big Daddy - the party that gave the first-ever London slots to now pivotal figures like Claude vonStroke and Mason, and started a record label that now features wonky names like Riva Starr, Andre Crom, Worthy and Yankee Zulu and London’s own Hannah Holland - not to mention the hugely critically acclaimed debut of Mike Monday, Smorgasbord - an IDJ album of the month and a UK classic in its own right.

11th Jul 2009 - Varda - Jersey

POPCOX goes international!

With inquiries streaming in from Ibiza, Brazil, Russia and Canada over the last 14 months its about time we kicked the credit crunch in the goolies and got Posirocksalot on a plane to convert the world!

Deets;

A new and exciting, stylish gay and lesbian venue where everyone is welcome. Varda has a chic interior comprising of a bar and nightclub split over two levels. Located in Cattle Street in St Helier it is a great venue for after work drinks, hold a party or to meet that someone special.

Ooh, sounds promising, looking forward to that then :o)

4th Jul 2009 - Cellar Door Pride special with POPCOX - Saturday 4th July

White Trash POPCOX can do Glamour!!!

The swankiest of gorgeous venues in my harem of fan venues, Cellar Door is an intimate bar beneath the Aldwych in a space just big enough for cats to swing - imagine 30’s Berlin meets New York basement dive. A very different venue to the usual night clubs POPCOX loiters in, this will be a very different gig to the belting club music she usually rocks out. A night of disco, funk, soul and a sprinkling of classic pop with some audio surprises along the way, this will be a fun alternative night out for a select few.

Music at a volume to chat comfortably above but enough to have a boogie to should you feel the need. Come and say hi to POPCOX and have a giggle while she spins the soundtrack to your Saturday night.

What better way to spend Independence day or Pride!?

POPCOX makes her West End debut at one of London’s classiest joints. January 2009

31st Jan 2009 - MiMo @ Bar Mango, Reading - 31st January www.mimoevents.co.uk

Here’s what they have to say;

Well, I don’t know about you but I’m sold!! It’ll be a doubly good night as it’s head resident Sam Sherry’s birthday and I know for a fact she’s a party animal! I have absolutely no doubt it will be a tottering makeup-smeared POPCOX mess that finally totters back to her hotel room on Sunday morning!

Hit me for guest and concession list – Londoners who want to come for a road trip, get in touch and I’ll let you know what train I’m getting.

December 2008

31st Dec 2008 - Pushca ‘A Fairytale Most Grimm’ New Years Eve Party @ a secret location in London

As many of you know, I am very anti-New Year’s Eve, why? Because promoters get greedy, let too many people into clubs and charge you the earth to go to the same clubs to hear the same DJs play and jammed in with a load of arseholes who don’t normally go out and don’t know how to behave. As a result, over the years I’ve been involved in a whole host of smaller underground New Years Eve events to ensure us regulars and all the nice people have a belting good time at a reasonable cost or, as with last year a riotous free party. I wouldn’t take a NYE booking lightly, even if I did I would be reserved about promoting it to my party faithful unless it was very, very special.

Pushca, the champagne of clubbing brands, world renowned for party production qualities that are second to none, approached yours truly earlier this year to play at their ‘Denim Vendetta’ party in May. Pushca pride themselves in always choosing exclusive and interesting non-club venues to host their themed parties, this one being no exception taking place in a mansion off Regent Street. Popping my Pushca cherry was an absolutely fabulous experience with a delightful mixed crowd of dressed up party people and an incredibly well stocked free bar all night, it was definitely one of the highlights of the year so far.

Pushca have invited me back to play their ‘A Fairytale Most Grimm’ New Years Eve extravaganza here in London. With a theme of ‘Brothers Grimm’ fairytale fancy dress, 2 sound systems, 4 bars, 800 capacity (comfortably, not jam packed) and the prospect of them building a forest inside the venue meant I unsurprisingly bit their hand off at the chance of playing! Hmm, now what to wear!

I have a limited number of tickets available but be warned Pushca events always sell out extremely quickly let a lone their NYE event.

Early bird tickets are currently £30 and will increase the later you leave it. Email me via the ‘get in touch’ link in the menu on the left side of this page. xx

13th Dec 2008 - Turkey Dance @ Helsinki, a Christmas shindig with POPCOX

Hurray and Hurrah, I just love my residency at Helsinki in Leicester, its always the most fun popping up to my new second home and seeing my disco family for a damn good party! If you haven’t been to Helsinki yet then frankly you really should as its well worth the trip up from London; a fabulous venue, delightful staff and party people with a great atmosphere and much dancing and hilarity to be had - watch out for my special POPCOX TV club profile on Helsinki coming soon.

If you do want to come, trains booked from London in advance are around £15 return and you can get a twin room in the Hotel Ibis for only £53, email me by getting in touch using the link on the left hand side of this page. xx

7th Sep 2008 - Club RUB Skin Two Rubber Ball Official After Party

Fetish club eh? Kinky clothing is it? Freakety Beaky does it? Spanky whipperty floggy will it? Rubbery dubbery duck might it?

POPCOX is honoured to make her debut performance at Club RUB, one of the most renowned fetish clubs in London and on this most special of special occasions the official Skin Two Rubber Ball After Party no less. Fetish parties have been getting considerably more media coverage recently and people from all over the world come out of the closet to visit the Skin Two Rubber Ball and, after making so much effort on their outfits, a romping good after party.

Contrary to popular misconception, you don’t get instantly raped on entering a fetish club, in fact it’s a little perplexing how wonderfully polite everyone is. You are 100 times less likely to get your ass pinched or unwanted (and often drunken and obnoxious) attention (you’ll get booted out) in a fetish club than in a regular club. In the event of someone taking a shine to you, the rules are that people politely ask if you’d like to do whatever it is they have in mind and if not, you politely decline.

Be under no illusion though, naughty kinky things do take place for sure and to the uninitiated there should at least be a few things to make your eyes pop! That said, a large part of it is people getting down and dancing in weird and wonderful costumes.

Hmm, what to wear, I’m thinking my pink marigolds just won’t cut it. Suggestions, free outfits, tailor made torture couture offers all gladly excepted, the wardrobe’s a little light on fetish gear, OK, so I’m just bored with what I’ve got then!
